Treatment for sore, cracked heels, leg mange (heel mites), and for
any cut or abrasion. Very effective on sarcoids. Use on whole hoof--
including coronary band, frog, and heel-- to disinfect and keep the
hoof supple.
Heelit is a natural heeling salve, made from a unique blend of balsamic
waxes and plant extracts that are known for their abilities to heal
and protect.
Heelit does not contain any lanolin or petroleum products, and is
a good preventative measure for horses prone to mud fever, protecting
the skin by creating a barrier against wetness.
Heelit can easily replace all of those products for cuts and abrasions
that contain dangerous chemicals which humans should not expose to
their own skin.
Heelit also promotes speedy hair growth.
Heel mite infestation
Heel mites, or chorioptic mange, are actually the immature stage of
the equine harvest mite, chorioptes equi, hence the name chorioptic
mange. The mite larvae live in tall grass shafts and attach themselves
to horses' legs. A microscopic skin scraping by your vet is the only
way to determine for sure if your horse has leg mange. Some of the
symptoms include scabs and loss of hair from the pasterns up to the
knee or hock. In extreme cases the skin on the legs becomes thickened.
To eradicate heel mites, not only do the legs of the horse need to
be treated, but also the stable area. Avoid using straw for bedding,
as mites live in the shafts of straw. |
